If you haven't guessed where this is yet, I will keep you in suspense. The well-dressed gentleman in the center kept lumbering around and referring to the assembled crowds as comrades. May Day isn't the biggest deal in London (don't be in Germany on this day), but it's enough to have a pretty serious police presence, as well as helicopters flying overhead.

This marks the site where executions were carried out at the Tower. Around the black part of the monument are the names of the victims.

This is one of the stairwells inside one of the towers. I think it was one of the ones in which there are numerous preserved etchings made by prisoners, some of which are mildly fascinating, but all of which are legible, even though they post signs that tell you what they say.

This tower was presumably named after it was rumoured to be the site at which a certain greedy uncle murdered the two young heirs to the throne. Their remains are assumed to be those that were discovered in the White Tower.

This is the view from the South Walk. What I forgot to mention about this is that Henry VIII actually had it built for one of his wives (I think it was Catherine, but I could be wrong), but by the time it was finished, she was kept there while awaiting execution as he moved on to the next one.

This is the oldest of the towers that still stands, and it is the centre of the complex. At the time, there was an exhibtion on suits of armour inside, which had everything from a child's suit to the much larger Henry VIII in his forties suit. Also on the way up that staircase is the site where the bodies of two children were found under a stairway. Details to come.

This is one of the Ravens. I thought this was cool because that is the house where a few of Henry VIII's wives were held prior to their execution, and this one was making quite a fuss. Not that those things are related.

This is Moira. Moira is the first woman to be a Beefeater, the office whose sole purpose is to work at the Tower, which is a combination of Tour Guide and guard of the Empire (mostly symbolic). It takes a full 22 years of military service to achieve this office. Also worth noting is that she is actually a Scotswoman, but no harm.

The large white complex is currently the residence of the Governor of the Tower. It also served as a holding place for Anne Boleyn, Catherine Howard (I think), and Rudolf Hess (for three days).

This is the statue of Winston roughly adjacent to Westminster Abbey, if I recall correctly. All the major British political entities are somewhere in the same area, including the bunkers where they hid out during the war, which are only a short walk from No. 10. Today, as you can see, there is a group protesting about the treatment of the Tamils in Sri Lanka.
